Introduction
Hello, this is GOK from the Shinjuku local media site Daily Shinjuku.
This time, I visited Gyoza no Ichi Hiryukaku, a Chinese restaurant in Nishi-Waseda, and would like to introduce it.

Authentic Chinese Restaurant in Nishi-Waseda

Gyoza no Ichi Hiryukaku is a Chinese restaurant serving a wide variety of authentic dishes, including many types of gyoza, mapo tofu, and sweet-and-sour pork with black vinegar.
The restaurant is located along Meiji Street, about a three-minute walk from Nishi-Waseda Station.
This time, I visited at around 8:00 p.m. on a weekday.
Interior and Menu at Gyoza no Ichi Hiryukaku

The interior of Gyoza no Ichi Hiryukaku is deeper and more spacious than it first appears, with around 54 seats in total.
There are also semi-private spaces available for group diners.

Reasonably Priced Authentic Chinese Dishes
Here are the dishes I ordered during this visit.
Drink Set – 780 yen

First, I ordered the drink set.
Stir-Fried Chicken with Cashew Nuts

The dish I chose with one drink set was stir-fried chicken with cashew nuts.
It included not only cashew nuts but also peanuts, and the seasoning had a slightly spicy finish. The flavor balance was excellent.
Shrimp with Mayonnaise

The dish chosen with another drink set was shrimp with mayonnaise.
It included apple, giving the dish a fruity character.
The mild acidity kept it from feeling too heavy, making it easy to enjoy.
Original Gyoza (8 pieces) – 580 yen

The original gyoza were small in size, but the wrappers were pleasantly chewy and filled with juices.
As the word “gyoza” appears in the restaurant’s name, the quality felt reliably solid.

Mapo Tofu – 780 yen

The mapo tofu had a rich, strongly savory flavor with a pronounced miso-like depth from ingredients such as sweet bean paste and doubanjiang.
It had a proper level of spiciness and tasted authentically Chinese. It also seemed like a dish that would pair well with plain rice or fried rice.
Seafood Fried Noodles – 1,180 yen

The dish I would recommend most from this visit was the seafood fried noodles.
It is described in the original article as a Bairan-style fried noodle dish, with a fragrant aroma and a very satisfying texture.
The seasoning was simple and salty, and the noodles were filled with ingredients such as squid, shrimp, scallops, and egg.
It also paired very well with the mapo tofu and was delicious enough to make me want to order it again next time.

Chashu Fried Rice – 880 yen

To finish the meal, I ordered the chashu fried rice.
It contained lettuce, egg, and diced chashu pork, with garlic chips adding a nice accent.
The rice had a loose, fluffy texture, and the soy sauce aroma stood out clearly.

Summary
This time, I introduced Gyoza no Ichi Hiryukaku, a Chinese restaurant in Nishi-Waseda.
The restaurant offers nearly 150 food menu items, and the prices are very reasonable.
Among the dishes ordered this time, the Bairan-style seafood fried noodles were especially outstanding.
There were many other dishes that caught my interest, so I would like to visit again.
If you are looking for an affordable and somewhat hidden authentic Chinese restaurant, Gyoza no Ichi Hiryukaku is well worth a visit.
