Introduction
Hello, this is GOK from Daily Shinjuku.
This time, we visited Beer & Cafe BERG, a long-standing indie café located in the underground shopping area directly connected to Shinjuku Station. Let us introduce you to its unique charm and signature morning menu.
Beer & Cafe BERG: An Indie Café in Shinjuku

Beer & Cafe BERG is located just a 15-second walk from Shinjuku Station’s East Exit gates. Founded in 1990, the café celebrated its 32nd anniversary in 2022.
Open from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM every day, it offers more than just coffee—you can also enjoy draft beer, wine, and a variety of light meals. Depending on the time of day, the café presents different atmospheres, from a casual morning spot to a lively bar at night.
Inside Beer & Cafe BERG

The interior resembles a cozy international bar, with an inviting vibe that might make you crave a beer even in the morning.
There are about 45 seats, including tables and a standing area. Many solo customers stop by, and it’s not uncommon to see people enjoying a beer early in the day.
Morning Set and Hot Chili Dog at BERG

The café offers a wide variety of affordable menu items:
- Morning Set ¥429
- Morning Set (with Beer) ¥726
- Morning Meal (Bacon & Cheese) ¥506
- Morning Plate ¥506
- Meister Morning ¥605
- BERG Dog ¥330
- Hot Chili Dog ¥440
- Meister Ham Sandwich ¥539
- Blend Coffee (S) ¥242
- Café Latte (S) ¥330
- Draft Beer (Sapporo) ¥330
- Dark Beer (Yebisu Black) ¥374
The sausages and hams served at BERG—known as Bergwurst—have even won gold at the IFFA Ham & Sausage Contest in Germany.
Hot Chili Dog + Coffee
We ordered the Hot Chili Dog (¥440) with salad set and a small blend coffee (¥242).
The bright red chili sauce was spicier than expected, pairing perfectly with coffee or beer. The plump sausage burst with juicy flavor on the first bite.
Morning Set + Iced Coffee

We also tried the Morning Set (¥429) with iced coffee (¥264).
This one-plate dish includes toast, fresh vegetables, a boiled egg, potato salad, and ham (the ham varies daily). The combination of rich, fatty ham with salad and egg made for a satisfying breakfast.
Classic Pudding
For dessert, we had the Pudding (¥275). Smooth yet firm, it had a nostalgic, old-fashioned taste and was just the right size for takeout as well.
Conclusion
Beer & Cafe BERG is a convenient café beneath Shinjuku Station, perfect for:
- A hearty morning set in the early hours
- A casual beer break during the day
- A quick coffee and snack before heading home
Next time, I’d love to try their handmade curry with a cold beer.
If you’re in Shinjuku, make sure to stop by and experience this beloved café.
