Tachinomi-dokoro Oonoya is located in Nishi-Shinjuku 7, near Shinjuku Ward Kashiwagi Park and Jōenji Cemetery.

This time, I visited for the first time around 6:30 p.m. on a Friday.

    Interior and Sembello Menu

The interior consists of approximately 30 standing spaces.

When I arrived, about 80% of the space was already occupied by office workers who had just finished work. Guests are guided to a spot immediately upon entering, but if it becomes crowded, you may be asked to move.

Below is a partial list of menu items (tax excluded):

    • Ajitama with chili oil – ¥200
    • Shirasu with grated daikon – ¥230
    • Pickled red turnip – ¥280
    • Potato salad – ¥280
    • Duck loin – ¥280
    • Octopus sashimi – ¥330
    • Marinated mackerel – ¥330
    • Premium grilled tongue – ¥380
    • Special motsuni (stewed offal) – ¥380
    • Fried liver – ¥380
    • Soy sauce fried chicken (1 piece) – ¥120
    • Chikuwa seaweed tempura – ¥160
    • Ham cutlet – ¥160
    • Fried potatoes – ¥100

With items starting in the ¥100 range, this is clearly a sembello-style bar. There is also a wide selection of skewers (yakitori-style pork skewers) and fried dishes.

    Sembello Dishes Ordered

Here is what I ordered during this visit.

Draft Beer – ¥516 (tax included)

To start, I ordered a draft beer.

The shop is certified as a “SUPER COLD” outlet, serving Asahi Super Dry at below 4°C.

    Marinated Mackerel – ¥363

    + Thick Omelet – ¥308

The omelet and marinated mackerel were served almost instantly from the refrigerator.

The mackerel had a strong vinegar flavor, making it especially suitable for the upcoming hot summer season.

    Ham Cutlet – ¥176

The ham cutlet was thicker than expected and so tender it barely required chewing.

The batter was thin, allowing for a lighter taste.

    Fried Potatoes – ¥110

The fried potatoes are a must-try dish.

The natural sweetness and fluffy texture of the potatoes paired well with the tangy Worcestershire sauce.

    Skewers: Harami + Tongue – ¥264

From the skewers menu, I ordered tongue and harami (skirt steak), seasoned with salt.

Both had a pleasant firmness and elasticity, showing the freshness of the meat.

    Special Motsuni – ¥418

The recommended grilled premium tongue was sold out, so I ordered the special motsuni instead.

Compared to motsuni at other izakaya, the offal pieces were cut larger, giving a satisfying bite.

There was no unpleasant odor, and the texture was very tender and flavorful.

    Summary

Oonoya Standing Bar Shinjuku West: Affordable Sembello in Nishi-Shinjuku 7

This time, I introduced the standing bar Oonoya near Shinjuku West Exit.

It is a convenient sembello-style bar used by solo customers for a quick drink before dinner (a “zero-th party”), or by groups for second or third rounds.

The dishes are served quickly, creating a fast turnover atmosphere.

Because efficiency seems to be emphasized, staff may frequently prompt customers to order drinks. Those who prefer to drink slowly at a relaxed pace may find it less suitable.

If you are interested, it is worth visiting.
