Introduction
Hello, this is GOK from Daily Shinjuku, a media outlet dedicated to local stories around Shinjuku.
Today, I visited “Yōshoku-ya Sandaime Taimeiken” on the B1 floor of Shinjuku Takashimaya, a long-established Western-style restaurant where you can enjoy authentic flavors without waiting in long lines. Here’s a closer look.

Savor Famous Flavors at the Eat-In Counter

Located in the B1 food floor of Shinjuku Takashimaya, Yōshoku-ya Sandaime Taimeiken features both a take-out deli and a small eat-in space.
The shop sells sandwiches such as minced-meat cutlet or pork fillet cutlet, bento meals like “staff-meal rice,” and various deli dishes including tomato-sauce hamburg steak and chilled edamame cream soup.
This time, I stopped by for a weekday lunch at the eat-in counter.
Inside the Eat-In Area

The eat-in space offers five counter seats only, yet it feels surprisingly open and comfortable thanks to the department store’s bright underground setting.
From your seat, you can watch the staff prepare dishes like omurice, bentos, and side items right before your eyes.

- Omurice & Menchi-Katsu – ¥1,610

Omuhayashi and Omurice & Crab Cream Croquette
Omuhayashi – ¥1,366

I ordered the restaurant’s signature Omuhayashi, featuring a fluffy omelet topped with rich Hayashi (demi-glace) sauce.
The chicken rice inside is moist and perfectly balanced with the sauce and egg. The flavor is strong yet never heavy—so good that I finished it quickly.
Omurice & Crab Cream Croquette – ¥1,509

Next, I tried the Omurice & Crab Cream Croquette set.
This omurice is the nostalgic ketchup-topped style, with the egg fully cooked to a light, fluffy texture. The sweetness of the egg and rice harmonizes beautifully with the gentle acidity of the ketchup.
The crab cream croquette features a crisp outer layer and a creamy, smooth filling. It tastes great even without tartar sauce, but adding a touch of tartar gives it a professional, restaurant-quality finish.
Summary
Yōshoku-ya Sandaime Taimeiken Shinjuku Takashimaya sits on the B1 floor of Shinjuku Takashimaya.
Your order arrives within five minutes, making it ideal for a quick and satisfying meal.
Above all, it’s wonderful to experience the taste of a long-established restaurant without waiting in line.
Since it’s accessible directly from the subway concourse, it’s also convenient on rainy days or when you’re short on time.
If this sounds appealing, it’s definitely worth a visit.
