Hello, this is GOK from Daily Shinjuku.
Today, I visited Hakata Tenjin Shinjuku Higashi-guchi (also known as the Shinjuku Gyoen branch), a beloved spot for authentic Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen. Known for its unbeatable price of 600 yen per bowl and one free noodle refill, it’s a go-to place for a quick, affordable, and satisfying meal.

In September 2024, Hakata Tenjin Shinjuku Higashi-guchi reopened after renovations, offering Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen in a refreshed, clean space. Located along Shinjuku-dori next to the fresh pasta specialty shop JINJIN, the store is also called “Shinjuku Gyoen branch” due to its proximity.

    2. A Bright and Spacious Interior with a Simple Menu

The interior, unified in white, now feels cleaner and more welcoming, with counter seating and tables in the back. The lighting is brighter, and the seating layout is more spacious than before. The menu features affordable options such as tonkotsu ramen for 600 yen, miso ramen for 700 yen, and “Kara” (spicy) ramen for 700 yen. Toppings include seasoned egg, nori, bean sprouts, and more. A small bottle of beer is also available.

    3. “Chashu Ramen” and “Kara (Spicy) Ramen”

I ordered the Chashu Ramen (850 yen), which was served in under a minute. The creamy, odorless tonkotsu broth paired perfectly with thin, straight noodles and well-balanced slices of chashu.
The Kara Ramen (700 yen) comes with spicy miso on a separate plate, allowing you to adjust the spice level while enjoying the base ramen. The spice is mild and complements the creamy soup without overpowering it. I added a seasoned egg topping (100 yen), which had a rich flavor and firm texture.

    4. Free Noodle Refills for Extra Satisfaction

A highlight is the free noodle refill (kaedama), which you can customize with table-side condiments such as takana (pickled mustard greens), beni shoga (pickled red ginger), and sesame seeds. Even with the generous portion, these flavor adjustments keep every bite enjoyable until the end.
