Hello! I’m GOK from Daily Shinjuku. Today, I visited Sushi Matsu Higashi-Shinjuku, a new conveyor-style sushi restaurant that opened on April 26, 2025.
Matsuya Foods’ Conveyor-Style Sushi: ‘Sushi Matsu Higashi-Shinjuku’

It’s just a 1-minute walk from Higashi-Shinjuku Station, located near the busy 7-chome intersection of Meiji-dori and Nube-Benten Street, on the 2nd floor of the newly built COERU Higashi-Shinjuku (completed January 2025). Operated by the well-known chain Matsuya Foods (also behind Matsuya, Matsu-no-ya, My Curry), expectations were high.
Interior and Menu

The restaurant seats 38 across tables and counter seating in a long, narrow layout, with some seats overlooking Meiji-dori. Upon arrival, you take a ticket from a kiosk and wait to be seated. The crowd included many foreign tourists and solo diners.

Menu highlights include:
- Summer 5-piece sushi platter – ¥1,100
- 3-piece premium tuna platter – ¥649
- 3-piece Hokkai (seafood) platter – ¥550
- Daily 5-piece + beer senbero set – ¥1,298
- Medium fatty tuna appetizer – ¥528
- Amberjack – ¥209/each
- Marinated mackerel – ¥143/each
- Negitoro roll – ¥319
- Edamame – ¥209
- Fried chicken – ¥319
- Kakiage udon – ¥429
They offer set menus and allow ordering one piece at a time via touch panel. Besides sushi, the menu offers sashimi, fried dishes, udon, desserts—all affordably priced. Certain outlets even serve oyster fry or oversized shrimp fry—price-wise competitive with standing izakayas and “senbero” pubs.
Daily 5-Piece + Beer Set & Senbero Menu

Though it’s conveyor-style, orders don’t move on a belt — they come via a high-speed shuttle. I tried the Daily 5-piece platter + beer (¥1,298). Rice is made from 100% domestic Japanese rice and served in small, single-piece sushi style. Toppings are fresh, sourced daily from Toyosu. Premium tuna options include upper akami, chutoro, and otoro—all from real tuna. The tuna was exceptionally delicious, melting in the mouth.
Other ordered items included amberjack, tamago (no rice), and fried squid rings—perfect for a casual solo drink-and-eat experience. Portion sizes were just right.

Summary

Sushi Matsu Higashi-Shinjuku is a touch-panel conveyor sushi restaurant where you can order sushi one piece at a time. It’s affordable, tasty, and approachable even for solo diners. Premium tuna (akami, chutoro, otoro) is strongly recommended.
